Last year, a cultural exchange project took place between
Eleanor Roosevelt High School
,
New York
and
Okok Secondary School
,
Kenya.
The students created collections of masks, books and videos for presentation to each other, designed to teach their counterparts about each others’ lives.
The students used their masks to communicate individual themes while using still and video cameras to document their communities, culture, and social and political concerns important to them as teenagers growing up in
New York City
and
Kisumu
,
Kenya.
The Kenyan and
New York City
youth communicated their ideas using several creative forms in articulating their concerns as individuals and as a community across cultures. In 2007, Kiboko Projects will return to
Kenya
to present the results of the
Eleanor
Roosevelt
High School
students. The Kenyan youth will have a new opportunity to respond to the projects.
